Ceiling fan light switch pull chain not working. If your ceiling fan or the light on the fan doesn t work when the chain is pulled then the problem is most likely a broken fan pull chain switch. The first thing i would do in a situation like this is to consider replacing the pull chain light switch. Locate the wire connections from the pull chain switch to the unit. Replace the old switch with a new pull chain switch then place the end cap back onto the light fixture.

The pull chain is working ok for the fan. The small switch where the pull chain attaches should now be visible. What should i do. Pull chain switches for light fixtures and ceiling fans can become a problem over time due to internal worn out parts a broken pull chain and in some cases the pull chain switch contacts may just wear out and stop working.

Carefully reattach the wires from the switch to the light remembering to pair black to black and ground to ground. First shut off the power running to the fan. But the pull chain i have for the light is not working. The switch will also need to be replaced if the chain will not pull down or if it broke off inside the fan housing.

Remove the old switch. Remove the light fixture housing from the fan. Unscrew the screws where the light fixture attaches to the fan assembly. Disconnect these wires and pull out the switch.
